No wonder I so often find myself asking "What were they thinking?"

Riding home last night listening to NPR I heard an interesting and disturbing interview with Nicholas Carr. He has written a book called The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains.

During the interview he explained that he started noticing a change in his ability to concentrate, which lead him to do the research that forms the basis of his book. His research shows that using the Internet is changing the way we read and process information - and not for the better.

Carr's finding indicate that we are losing our ability to think slowly and deeply, which impacts our ability to be creative and to build wisdom. Assuming his research is right, I find this to be a scary trend given the ever increasing complexity of the world we live in.
